The 2022 Icon performance is defined by its ease of handling utilizing a powerful and direct riding feel. The five batten panel layout gives you complete command in all situations and the confidence to push hard. With five battens to keep the sail draft in forward locked position, the sail works equally well for high-wind jumping environments to powering driving turns in challenging onshore conditions and all wind angles in between. Adaptability is Icon’s signature trait and a big reason it is been so popular for well over a decade. The Icon also provides the ultimate level of stability in any wind range. This superb stability also means that the Icon is less physically demanding for the rider to use compared to the Blacktip, providing the rider with an absolute focus on maneuvers and going really fast with full control at all times.
Technical solutions in 2022 include a refined luff curve design, with a lower aspect ratio compared to 2021. The batten above the boom has been moved up to create more drive, as seen on the Blacktip. Combined, these refinements offer the control of a 5 batten sail, but with the drive of a 4 batten wave sail. A compact outline and medium to low aspect ratio provide a powerful front-end drive to generate speed in turns and high-end control in high-wind jumps.

The Banzai Pro is the “go to” 4 batten worldwide wave sail for our top riders Marcilio Browne (PWA wave world champion) and Loick Lesauvage. The Banzai Pro is the answer and solution to all demands of a light weight, direct power delivery, wide range sail with heaps of flex feel and control. The adaptability of the Banzai Pro is unparalleled.
Unique to the Banzai Pro design 2021 concept is the back-hand throttle control. The sail pulls forward from “low RPMs” and is very balanced, but there is always a little “extra” available off the back hand for when you really need to juice up into a jump or maneuver. This tactile back-hand feel gives you a direct connection to how the sail is loading and releasing and allows you stay connected throughout your maneuvers. Marcilio Browne has driven this concept, insisting that the sails maintain the connected feel, providing him supreme confidence and control through technical and radical maneuvers. There is a trend in the market for more “neutral” feeling wave sails, and while there is a place for more of that on other Goya models, the Banzai Pro is designed for a more positive rider connection to instant power delivery. The Banzai Pro window material is Bi-Ply film. This “sleeper” feature is a massive step up from mono film. Bi-Ply is two layers of laminated clear film, lasting about 3x longer than mono film. It is UV protected and highly resistant to hard creases. Francisco Goya claims it as his personal favorite, and as of late, Levi Siver has been spending time on the Guru X Pro in the pure wave conditions of Ho’okipa and loving it. Makes sense, because that’s where the design was born and established many years ago. Continuing its development around the world, high winds of The Gorge, and spots like Pozo have helped to tune up the smaller sizes to work as magnificent as the rest of the line. The goal has always been for the 3.2 to feel like the 4.7 and through lots of prototypes and testing in those extreme conditions were we finally able to achieve it. Guru X Pro offers a huge rigging range. With it’s soft power delivery and smooth progressive twist, you can rig this sail very full and still fill comfortably in control. Simmer SX8 80% Carbon SD Mast
SX8 SDM
80% PRE-PREG CARBON
The SX8 presents high carbon content for quick reflex respons that will lighten the feeling of any rig. Using the same high performance construction and bend curve as the SX10, the SX8 offers high-end performance with added durability therefore it is the best compromise between performance and durability.
SX8 stands for 80% carbon content. They are designed from a high grade pre-preg carbon. This technology ensures optimum control of resin content and resin distribution throughout the laminate. The carbon layup features a inner layers of 45 degree carbon weave to control torsion and quick reflex response. The outer layer carbon has a 90 degree orientation for highest possible strength.
The SX8 mast feature a progressive constant curve which means that the bend curve is constant but the base is stiffer than the top. This provides optimal sail dynamics allowing the bottom of the sail to generate power, and the top of the rig to quickly release power. The bend curve of the SDM and RDM’s are compatible with one another, but the RDM's are more durable, therefor more suitable for punishing wave conditions. SDM’s provide a faster reflex response, better stability and faster acceleration, therefor more suitable for flatwater sailing.
The Simmer wavesails are developed on the SX8 RDM and this is the mast that we recommend for this reason. The SX8 SDM is the recommended mast for VMax and 2XC and SC Slalom.
